Idea #7 Twitter threading in my email client

I want to be able to send a twitter update from within my email client. I then want to be able to see all the replies and re-tweets as a threaded conversation and then interact with those messages.

Infact I would like to have conversational threading for all the social software application I interact with e.g. linkedin, facebook, wordpress etc. along with all the replies and comments.

I would like to interact with all these social software services from within a standard interface i.e. my email system. This may lead to commoditisation of social software capabiliites because I will no longer care which social software site I am interacting with as it is abstracted to my email client.

I believe this creates a new requirement for an Enterprise Social Software discovery service…

Idea #3 Twitter Mashups

In the twitter web page, when I type in my 140 characters about what I am doing I would like the left and right columns to populate in a lovely AJAX manner the following:

People who have posted similar tweets
Information source e.g. wikipedia relevant to the tweet
An advertisement providng a product that relates to my tweet
show the replies and DMs that have arisen from the tweet

Possible Solution

Maybe I should build an iWidget in Lotus Mashups to take my twitter RSS feed and then populate the mashup from related datasources.

Anyone else?

Lotusphere 2009 starts today.

Unfortuately I am not able to make it this year which is a real shame. There are large number of sessions that I am interested in especially on the Web 2.0 track.

The Lotusphere folk have published a blog using Quickr so I will have to check into that now and again to see what is happening. I have also added a post on their blog asking if anyone is live blogging and/or live streaming the sessions so I can participate from afar.

From a Tweet to zendesk

I have a new twitter follower @justinflitter. As with most people who sign up to follow me on Twitter I thank them and then have a look at their website link. Justins links took me to his blog which I started to read. He has a really interesting blog entry about how he managed to find his current employer, zendesk. It involved a fair bit of tweeting (of the twitter find) and skyping but he got there in the end – congratulations! Read his blog for the full story.

Justin now works for zenddesk. Zendesk’s proposition looks very interesting indeed.

In a previous life I was a Service Delivery Manager for some of IBM’s call centre infrastructure and I was pleased to see the use of ITIL. ITIL is almost a religion in the Service Delivery world.

I ended up as a Service Delivery Manager having risen through the ranks starting as a Helpdesk operative, and then IT Service Analyst across multiple Service Management disciplinesuch as Problem, Change, Configuration, Availability, Performance Management etc.

One of the hardest things I found was getting the customers problem into the helpdesk system accurately – I would expect zenddesk to have the same sort of problems. The other common issue was getting the helpdesk best resource addressing the customers problem in a timely fashion. Zenddesk have a pool of operatives around the globe that can be called upon to help any customers problem.

I think this is a brilliant idea for a solution for Small and Medium Businesses (SMB) although the challenge would be the number of operatives within the New Zealand timezone. Assuming that was covered, at a cost of US$19 per agent per month the price looks pretty good. zenddesk provides communities, forums, tags and blogs to help customers interact with the helpdesk / incident management team – good stuff.

One quick comment on the web site…on the faq page http://www.zendesk.com/faq it should say

“How safe is my data?”

rather than

“How safe are my data?”

I have a meeting with a local marketing company and a corporate marketing team to discuss how to generate more impact within the marketplace using new media rather than email and print.

There are a bunch of technical solutions to assist and the embedded presentation talks about one of those Twitter. The presentation has some great examples of the effect that twitter is having and does give us some food for thought in this area.

I will certainly be talking to the marketing teams about twitter and other solutions but actually the real question is not how we can penetrate the market better but “why do we want to engage our customers”.

If we can answer that question clearly the technical solutions become clear.

This week I am focusing on the Health sector looking at Health 2.0 and e-Health. I thinking about how Primary and secondary health providers interact with each other also, how patients suffering from similar conditions interact with each other and the communities that exist to support these interactions.

I stumbled upon Me-trics.

It is currently in private beta but it looks like an interesting service. Providing an aggregation of your health from manual data entry and automated sources – lots of mobile phone access I assume a.k.a twitter?

If I think about our personal health and how we manage and maintain there is a need to understand where we fit in the scheme of things such as BMI, blood sugar, resting heart rate etc. A site that starts to pull this together has got to be of interest. With Google health in Beta the ability to provide supporting information to your personal health record might appeal to many of us. The challenge remains how much data we are prepared to manually enter into a central repository about our health history and how much data we are prepared to update on a daily basis.

I guess the jury is out and if the Gen Yers want to update and share more personal information it might just have legs.

Personal view is that when devices are more “embedded” in our clothes then this will be huge!

The drivers for these types of sites originate from the rapidly increasing cost of health care across the world. The Boomers are sucking up all the money for their health care and the rest of us in full time employment are being encouraged to not be ill by taking preventative measures.

I hope me-trics delivers some good function beyond the usual health aggregation / social networking sites – which I find bit dull.
