Here is a deck that I have used to present and demonstrate Lotus Connections.

The deck is split into three areas:

1. Potential

2. Practicality

3. Reality

Potential looks at what can be achieved using Social Software tools. This section is delivered as a story of my work day flying to Wellington NZ for a customer presentation

Practicality goes into feature function land by demonstrating lots of product features in the form of different usage scenarios e.g. finding expertise, finding colleagues with a common interest etc – all these demonstrations are delivered using pre-built videos.

Reality looks at how you actually deliver all the capabilities discussed including deployment options and support statements.

I *heart* Lotus Connections v2.5 communities and get a massive amount of personal value from being a member of the communities within IBM. I suffer from an interesting problem in that I belong to about 25 communities which makes it difficult to access the community I want as soon as I access the communities area! Maybe we need another way to visualize the communities you belong to.

A couple of simple examples would be Google Chrome and the view of your popular web pages and Lotus Notes’ Workplace view. The visual icon UI interface is really easy to interact with – it just adds an additional emphasis on the icon that you use – an extra navigation ui component.

Here is a video explaining my thoughts.

As a new user of SUT which I think is WOW! I noticed from RWW an article about some of the new Start-ups specifically CallSpark.

The application is a dynamic address book that lets you search for people across multiple accounts and social networks as well as in the popular CRM system, Salesforce, Whitepages, Yellowpages, and Yelp. But CallSpark isn’t simply a useful address book service, it also lets you view real-time information about whoever you’re calling. For people, that includes the most recent social networking updates from Facebook and Twitter, while for business listings, there’s even more interactive content available thanks to customizable listings called “RingPages.”

As an SUT user I can now use my desktop to dial out to anybody including my social networking contacts. If we could hook the Sametime address book with a CallSpark like service we could provide an aggregated address book of all my contacts including social software sites and the corporate directory.

Callspark also pulls real-time information about the person we are about to call into your view think status information from Facebook and Twitter. We have status information in Lotus Connections so an aggregation of this data around the person we are about to call would also prove to be useful.

A thought…if you found this useful please share with someone!
