I *heart* Lotus Connections v2.5 communities and get a massive amount of personal value from being a member of the communities within IBM. I suffer from an interesting problem in that I belong to about 25 communities which makes it difficult to access the community I want as soon as I access the communities area! Maybe we need another way to visualize the communities you belong to.

A couple of simple examples would be Google Chrome and the view of your popular web pages and Lotus Notes’ Workplace view. The visual icon UI interface is really easy to interact with – it just adds an additional emphasis on the icon that you use – an extra navigation ui component.

Here is a video explaining my thoughts.

I can see two places in Sametime where context information might be useful

1. Within my buddy list I can add some context information, or within the actual chat window.

2. when I set up a notification, to be able to add some text about why I want the notification to appear might also be useful.

We have lots of plastic cards in our wallets for lots of reasons but it strikes me that we need to do a bit of a cull. With Auckland, NZ going through the process of becoming a “Super City” which means that the city has one Mayor and one management strucutre maybe now is the right time to start the cull. As the services that the local council will provide will be combined with other local councils I think now is the time to use the library card as the gateway for all local services.

The library card already hold informaiton about us, it has a way of billing us and libraries are often the start of the search for local council and community services. If we also combine the library card with sponsors like Mojo we can have access to community services and a coffee loyalty program and I can’t see anyone disagreeing with that!

In order for better integration between enterprise applications and user interfaces e.g.Intranets I believe we will need a product that maintains a list of the social software applications that our employees interact with including their external userids and passwords.

The advantage to the organisation is that they could then build widgets and fragments that we could place within the UI of any application to allow access to these external social software applications in the context of the activity that the employee is performing – this assumes that the organisation finds value in employees interacting with social software sites.

The social software discovery service would be an extension to the pre-exiting corporate directory ie. the the external corporate directory. We would need to map corporate user id against external user ids similar to some SSO soultions.

If employees didn’t sign-up to the discovery service and provide their userids and passwords for these accounts the organisation could block access to them from work using security services such as Facetime. (this raises some ethical issues about corporate access to employees digital profiles, this is disucussed in Profile 2.0 – more on that later)

I want to be able to send a twitter update from within my email client. I then want to be able to see all the replies and re-tweets as a threaded conversation and then interact with those messages.

Infact I would like to have conversational threading for all the social software application I interact with e.g. linkedin, facebook, wordpress etc. along with all the replies and comments.

I would like to interact with all these social software services from within a standard interface i.e. my email system. This may lead to commoditisation of social software capabiliites because I will no longer care which social software site I am interacting with as it is abstracted to my email client.

I believe this creates a new requirement for an Enterprise Social Software discovery service…

While having a chat with John Eyles about the future of collaboration it dawned on me that we tend to put a lid on our creative innovative side until something comes along to trigger it. USually this trigger is someone asking a question or interacting with some content and somehow linking it to another piece of content to come up with something new.

My idea would be to create decks of cards based on the folksonomy of all the blog content from influencial innovators. Then using these key words mix in action statements and random objects and images to see if hitting your brain with these stimulus produces new thoughts.
