SaaS is the burger of the IT world and SaaS vendors are McDonalds.
I will give you a homogenised product that looks and tastes the same, the only difference is the colour of the box that the burger is packaged in.
When you purchase a SaaS product remember what you are getting. You are getting a product that provides value to your product (otherwise why would you buy it) and from the vendors perspective a product that is highly saleable and repeatable with little variation. This concept has its heritage in the systems of Kanban, TQM and the Kano model of “delight the customer” although delighting the customer the same way again and again and again.
SaaS vendors are mostly able to change the packaging of the solution. It my be IBM technology under the covers but it is brought to you by the accounting institute, or the farmers co-op etc.
If you are a customer that likes things to be exactly the way you want them then the main stream SaaS based solutions are not for you, you want a cloud solution that is tailored to your needs. SaaS vendors may well provide this service for you but you will pay for the privilege.

To customers I say get rid of your IT kitchens (or part of them) and start buying burgers to feed your staff, they are cheap and nutritious and over time they will evolve and satisfy you the way only a steak sandwich can.
