Lotus Sametime 3D is currently in pilot. Luckily for me I now have access to the IBM servers so I thought I would quickly document the install, configuration and first time access to a Lotus Sametime 3D virtual world.
It is really exciting to be able to access the servers, I think this is a brilliant development. I hope that Universities, Government agencies, and Private companies start to look at this technology as a way to seriously change the way they collaborate and become innovation and productivity power houses.
Here is a (rough) video that I have just created showing the steps I needed to take to access this virtual world. If you are interested in more videos showing different capabilities please let me know.
Will this technology distrupt web conferencing and training providers? Will this technology drive other vendors to produce their own bolt on solution? Lots of questions and no answers as yet.

OK, I'm ready, and I've been preaching Virtual Collaboration for about 2 years, I network with IBM'ers on 3 continents. How do I participate in the Sametime 3D pilot project? Let's Roll.

Hi Barry, at the moment the project is in Pilot mode. This means that access to the system is given to organisations that are prepared to provide feedback on their usage of the solution. Send an email to Karen Keeter and copy me chris_sparshott@nz.ibm.com with an indication on your interest and we can start from there. Will need to understand some information around the size of your organisation and the types of Sametime 3D collaboration that you are interested in looking at. Is that ok?
