Hadoop is one of the coolest emerging software products in my mind. Its cloud, its analytics its cheap and it adds shed loads of value.
So here is my session 3 of presenting social software to a client. This one focuses on value and to encourage thinking about how to prove success of a software deployment.
Other sessions to come will include architecture design and project plan.
enjoy..by the way if you like it please share it with someone!
I have just got off a conference call with attendees across a couple of continents and it is probably the first call I have done in 15 years where I have been the only bloke, all the other attendees were woman.
IT is a hugely male dominated industry but you don’t think / realise that all your female colleagues have to do calls and face to face meetings with a bunch of blokes,
Makes you think.
I was asked to pull together a short pitch on what a work day would look like for employees in the next few years as way of a discussion point. I created this short deck which pulls on a few other decks to illustrate some thoughts.
If you want to know who the people are on the front of the slide deck that would be the IBM Software Group in New Zealand. This is probably my last post of 2009 so Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year.
Once the development team have been given the directive “thou shalt use WebSphere Portal” where does that leave them in terms of managing the builds and releases of the Portal artifacts. I managed to find a really useful presentation that I used to help facilitate a discussion on this topic.
Sometimes you need to have a slide deck which helps start a discussion around social software, what it is and why people use them? Here is a normalized slide deck that I have used to start such a discussion. Let me know if its useful.
Here is a deck that I have used to present and demonstrate Lotus Connections.
The deck is split into three areas:
1. Potential
2. Practicality
3. Reality
Potential looks at what can be achieved using Social Software tools. This section is delivered as a story of my work day flying to Wellington NZ for a customer presentation
Practicality goes into feature function land by demonstrating lots of product features in the form of different usage scenarios e.g. finding expertise, finding colleagues with a common interest etc – all these demonstrations are delivered using pre-built videos.
Reality looks at how you actually deliver all the capabilities discussed including deployment options and support statements.

I am building a demo vm using SUSE SLES as I have never used this distribution before. As I installed SUSE I captured screen shots in case I needed to reference this information in the future. I have posted the presentation to Slideshare and I have embedded it here for you to review.
